Alex Telles opens up on his rivalry with Luke Shaw and Pogba’s dilemma

In an interview on Monday, Alex Telles said: “I have great respect for Luke Shaw. Not just for him, for all the players in this side.

“I know the history Luke has at Manchester United. I came here to help, since the first day. The first year here for me wasn’t that easy for me.

“But this year I feel a lot better. I’m working very hard, I’m a player that comes to help. The manager makes the decisions.

“He’ll pick the player who is playing best. I have a huge amount of respect for him and we get on really well on the pitch.”

Ralf Rangnick has been rotating between Telles and Shaw after taking over at Old Trafford with neither player establishing themselves as Man United’s first-choice left-back so far.

The Brazilian defender has a slight edge over the Englishman ahead of the Atletico Madrid clash after impressing in the 3–2 win against Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Paul Pogba dilemma: select your preferred Man United XI vs Atletico Madrid from 2 options

Manchester United return to Champions League action with a Round of 16 second-leg clash against Atletico Madrid at home on Tuesday.

The first game ended in a 1–1 draw thanks to Anthony Elanga’s second-half equaliser but the away goal rule has been scrapped by UEFA this season.

Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes should be available for selection after missing the 3–2 win against Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Option 1: Pogba in midfield

Ralf Rangnick is likely to select his strongest starting XI and, based on form, this is currently the best Man United side. With McTominay back in contention, the Scot could playing alongside Paul Pogba in midfield against the La Liga side.

Option 2: Pogba at left-wing

There’s also a possibility with the Frenchman moving to the left side of the attack with Jadon Sancho playing on the right. Fred gets to keep his starting XI place after impressing in the Spurs game. Meanwhile, more changes are possible.
