Chelsea ace Mason Mount makes wake up call on teammates to brace up for Madrid return

Chelsea ace Mason Mount has urged the club to stick together after their Champions League collapse against Real Madrid.

Mount admitted every game until the end of the season is now a “final” as Thomas Tuchel warned his players their season is in danger of unravelling.

A stunning Karim Benzema hat-trick earned Real a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge in last night’s Champions League quarter-final first leg and condemned the Blues to back-to-back home defeats following the 4-1 loss to Brentford on Saturday.

“We know how tough it’s going to be at their place and we need to regroup,” Mount said. “It starts today, getting together as a group and then attacking every single game with 100 per cent until the end of the season because every game is a final now.

“In the League, in the Champions League, FA Cup, any game we play. We’ve got a massive mountain to climb next week but we’re Chelsea. If there’s any team that can do it, it’s us. We’ll give it everything. We’ve got that hunger and desire to really accomplish something.

“We managed to get one back and then obviously we conceded again. There’s stuff to look at and focus on but this is football and at the top level little things can punish you.

“We’re a group that really sticks together and we’re going to have to do that massively, from now until the end of the season. We have to stick together, be a family, attack every game. That’s what we have left.”

Differences between Real Madrid striker Benzema and Chelsea’s Lukaku

Former Inter Milan striker Aldo Serena has drawn a comparison between Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

Benzema struck a hat-trick in Real’s Champions League win at Chelsea this week, while Lukaku came off the bench and missed two good chances.

Since leaving Inter in August, Lukaku has managed 12 goals in 36 competitive games, but dropped to the bench under coach Thomas Tuchel.

Asked to compare the two, Serena posted to social media: “It’s about how they react to changing circumstances.

“Some were challenged and lost all confidence, while another started from the position of support for Cristiano Ronaldo, but with that departure he took the throne, boosting his self-confidence and character.”
