The January transfer window may have been quiet for Chelsea, but they intend to splash some cash in the summer, according to The Athletic.
The Blues intend to strengthen pretty much every area of the pitch, judging by their shortlist. It will not surprise anyone as it includes Jules Kounde, Declan Rice, Aurelien Tchouameni and Ousmane Dembele.
It’s not clear whether it will be a straight choice between Rice and Tchouameni as Thomas Tuchel will also want to integrate Conor Gallagher into the team.
Unlike the rest of the players targeted by Chelsea, Dembele is due to be a free agent in the summer. He wouldn’t come cheap, though, as such transfers result in inflated salaries and agent fees.
There were plenty of reports about Chelsea’s talks with the Barcelona winger in January – and The Athletic confirms that there were some conversations – but the reality is that a move last month was never a real possibility.
