Chelsea star Alonso replies Madrid Toni Kroos after Champions League claims

Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso has hit back at Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos after the Germany international claimed that his team could beat Thomas Tuchel’s side in the Champions League quarter-final if they took care of their errors.

Earlier this month, Kroos told Diario AS that Real Madrid could eliminate Champions League holders Chelsea if they took care of their errors.

Real Madrid and Chelsea will clash in the Champions League last-8 next month for a place in the last-4.

Last season, the Los Blancos lost to Chelsea in the semi-finals of the competition.

Speaking on Kroos’ claims, Alonso fired a warning to Real Madrid by referring to the two sides’ meeting last season.

“We already showed last year what we are capable of. It is a different year, another moment, but we are facing two great teams, and we will try to give everything to reach the semi-finals,” Alonso was quoted by Football London as saying.

He added, “I think there are no favourites. At this point, any team is complicated, and it will be a beautiful and difficult tie for sure. Let us leave it there, at 50% chance for each.”

Toni Kroos makes claim ahead of Champions League fixture

Kroos said that no team in the Champions League, including Real Madrid, wanted to play Chelsea in the last eight.

The Germany international admitted that it would be a difficult match when Real Madrid clashes with Chelsea in April.

The former Bayern Munich star believes Thomas Tuchel’s side are the toughest team to face in the competition.

“They [Chelsea] are the current Champions League champions, so it couldn’t be more difficult. There could hardly be a bigger hurdle, but we have to concentrate on ourselves, and if we play well, it is possible to do a lot of things.

“We have to try to be very good because that is what we will have to do to reach the semi-finals. Probably nobody wanted PSG in the last 16, and probably nobody wanted Chelsea in the quarter-finals, but that is the way things are, and we have to accept them,” Kroos said while speaking on his brother’s podcast via Europa Press.

Recall that Chelsea were drawn against Real Madrid when the Champions League’s last eight draws were conducted a few days ago in Nyon, Switzerland.

The reigning Champions League holders had eliminated Lille in the last 16, while Real Madrid knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the tournament.
