Gabriel Jesus has already told Manchester City ‘what he wants’ as he continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal.
The Gunners have been in contact with Pep Guardiola’s side over a potential deal for the Brazilian with City slapping a £55million price tag on the striker, according to ESPN.
It’s claimed the north Londoners feel that price is too steep, however, as they could feasibly sign him as a free agent in 12 months’ time with his contract expiring in the summer of 2023.
Jesus is a player that Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of following their spell working together at the Etihad. It has been widely reported that City are looking to cash in on Jesus given the fact his contract is winding down, coupled with the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Jesus is said to be keen on a switch to the Emirates as his agent Marcelo Pettinati confirmed that he likes Mikel Arteta’s project. The attacker is assessing his options due to his limited game-time this season, which is likely to be hindered even further with the arrival of Haaland.
And the 25-year-old has now opened up about his future after City sealed the Premier League title at the weekend. He confirmed that he has made the Etihad club aware of what he is looking for and that he will make a decision in the summer.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil, he said: “About my future, it’s still uncertain. I have a contract with City and I have already expressed my desire to the City people and to my agent. I have in my head [a very clear idea of] what I want.
“Today, I want to celebrate a lot with City. It’s obvious that I’m very happy here. Tomorrow, if everything goes well for me, my wife and our family, [daughter] Helena will come to the world.
“So, I have to take advantage of this moment. Then, think about the team, smile at the team again. And, on vacation, I [will] decide about my future.”
Jesus was given an extended run in the team to finish the Premier League season as City closed in on the title, a tactic that was deployed to increase his value, according to football.london.
The forward is not pushing for an exit but Guardiola will not stand in his way if he demands to leave the club. Arsenal have ‘baulked’ at Jesus’ £55m asking price which means they might be forced to look at alternatives with a new striker a priority this summer.
