‘This isn’t true’: Harry Maguire slams reports of Cristiano Ronaldo being Man United captain

On Friday morning, Harry Maguire responded to reports claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing to replace him as Manchester United captain until the end of the season.

The defender wrote on Twitter: “I’ve seen a lot of reports about this club that aren’t true and this is another. Not going to start posting about everything that is written but I needed to make this one clear. We’re united and focused on Sunday. Enjoy your day everyone.”

It was reported by the Mirror earlier this week that Ralf Rangnick has spoken to both Maguire and Ronaldo about giving the armband to the Portuguese in order to take the pressure off the centre-back.

The duo are said to be ’embroiled in a power struggle’ with the younger members of the Old Trafford squad convinced that it’s only matter of time before the 37-year-old forward replaces the England international as skipper.
