Speaking to bettingexpert, Jaap Stam said: “I think for Donny van de Beek, he didn’t get enough chances to show himself, because it’s not only about getting one game or a couple of minutes.
“No, you need several games and I’m not saying that the Manchester United coach is to blame, because there’s a lot of tension on the games, there’s a lot of tension on the coaches.
“Of course I can understand that a coach is not saying ‘yeah, but I cannot give him a couple of games to see how he does’ and then risking, if he’s not working out, that we might lose more games. I can understand that in a way.
“But I can also understand that you need to trust your players, you need to give confidence to players. Sometimes, of course, you need to give them a little bit more extra time to show themselves in what they can do.
“Also maybe play a little bit more attacking minded. For some reason the coaches are not picking him. Maybe he’s too attacking minded. He wants to go forward. The coaches have favoured two holding midfield players.”
Van de Beek joined Everton on loan in the January transfer window after hardly featuring during the 2021/22 campaign under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
However, things are not going much better for the Dutchman at the Merseyside. The 24-year-old is yet to score a goal or register an assist in six Premier League games for the Toffees.
Portugal progress to World Cup playoffs final, will face North Macedonia after Italy crash out
Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes both started for Portugal in the 2022 World Cup playoff semi-final against Turkey.
Portugal won the game 3–1 thanks to goals from Otavio, Diogo Jota and Mathues Nunes. Burak Yilmaz scored once and missed a second-half penalty for Turkey.
Up next for Ronaldo and co. is North Macedonia who shockingly knocked out Euro 2020 winners Italy. The winner of the game, which will take place next Tuesday, will get to go to Qatar in November.
