Liverpool look in fine fettle ahead of this Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea having cruised past Leeds United in the Premier League.
The Reds welcomed Marcelo Bielsa’s men to Anfield on Wednesday evening aiming to continue their great form in the Premier League and they did exactly that with a comprehensive 6-0 victory.
Former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah got the Reds off to the perfect start as he opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Joel Matip then doubled the lead.
Salah then had another say only five minutes later with another successful spot-kick as Jurgen Klopp’s men raced into what looked like an unassailable lead.
The hosts slightly took their foot off of the pedal in the second-half but there was still time for Sadio Mane to twice get his name on the scoresheet in the closing stages of the game, whilst Virgil van Dijk also got in on the act in the final few seconds.
Victory means that the Reds remain second in the Premier League table and are now just three points behind current leaders Manchester City. It also sees them stretch the gap between themselves and the Blues, with Liverpool now 10 points clear of their nearest challengers.
It was certainly no surprise to see the Reds run out comfortable winners considering the difference between the two sides at the current time and the impressive run that Liverpool currently find themselves on.
They have now won their last nine games in all competitions – a run that will certainly stand them in excellent stead ahead of this weekend’s Wembley showpiece.
It goes without saying though that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea will be doing their utmost to stop that.
The Blues are also in the middle of their own eye-catching winning run with six consecutive successes in all competitions – with wins in the Club World Cup, FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League all a feature during that period.
