Maguire finally speaks after Solskjaer departure blames team

Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire has reacted to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure as club manager while speaking in a press conference.

He said: “The players need to take responsibility. We are in this together. Ultimately the manager has paid the price (for poor performances), we are all so disappointed by that.

“We know we haven’t been good enough. We have spoken about that. The lads want to succeed.

“It has been a very hard time as players. The amount of respect we had for the boss. We’ve been on a journey together.

“For him [Solskjær] to come in and talk to us yesterday, it was tough. The result on Saturday wasn’t good enough but the results of recent have not been good enough. Ole has paid the price and we have to take a big responsibility too.”

The defender had an awful outing in Solskjaer’s final game in charge, getting sent off in the 1-4 loss to Watford.

The Englishman is, however, available for the Champions League game against Villarreal – which the Red Devils must win to get closer to sealing a play in the knockout rounds.

Michael Carrick will be in-charge for now as the board search for new manager intensify.
