Man United 1-1 Chelsea: Player Ratings as Ronaldo rescues United from home defeat

Ronaldo scores 17th Premier League goal of the season to end Man United’s back-to-back defeats.

Manchester United and Chelsea drew 1-1 in their Premier League game on Thursday. The Red Devils remain out of the top-four race as Chelsea hold on to their third spot on the table.

The game started with both teams hesitating to push forward for the opening goal. A goalless draw in the first half saw David De Gea deny Kai Havertz twice with brilliant saves. However, United found almost no chance of scoring.

Chelsea looked much improved after the interval, starting their efforts to open the scoring as soon as the second half started. They finally found the back of the net through Marcos Alonso just before the hour-mark.

However, only two minutes later, United bounced back with an equalizer. Following a poor clearance by N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic sent a chip pass to Ronaldo inside Chelsea’s box. The Portuguese superstar latched on to the ball before firing a powerful striker behind Edouard Mendy to make it 1-1 for his side.

Chelsea remained in charge of the possession for the rest of the game and had several chances to score the winner. However, the Red Devils managed to keep their defensive integrity and escape the game with a point.

What’s next for Man United?

United might drift even further from the top four if West Ham and Tottenham win their respective games this week. On the other hand, Chelsea now feels more pressure from Arsenal, who are only six points behind them on the table.

The Red Devils will take on Brentford on Monday while Chelsea prepare to meet Everton a day earlier.

Ronaldo’s mother reveals best gift anyone can give Man United forward

Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, has revealed that a ‘ball’ is the best gift anyone could give the Manchester United forward.

Aveiro said this while reflecting on Ronaldo’s childhood days, saying that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was destined for greatness early on.

During a conversation with Portuguese TV host Nuno Markl, She recalled an occasion when a young Ronaldo rejected a bicycle she gave him as a gift.

According to her, Ronaldo was happier with a ball than a bicycle.

Aveiro narrated in a video posted on Nuno Markl’s Instagram page: “There was a time when I offered him a bicycle. ‘Oh mother, I’m no baby!’, he said. ‘I didn’t want the bicycle.’ “He was happier with a ball than a bicycle. A ball was the best gift anyone could give him. He would take the ball and leave the house, so he wouldn’t be tied to the television. Ronaldo would walk in the morning and only come at night for dinner. I knew where he was.”

She added: “He was born with that gift. A mother has to let her child choose what he wants. Mothers are the ones who have to set an example for their children. When I saw Ronaldo playing as a little boy, I realised he had a gift for that.”
