Mauricio Pochettino is very aware that his time at PSG is coming to an end and could go all out to become the next Manchester United manager come this summer.
Pochettino’s PSG side were thrashed out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday following a 17-minute total humiliation at the Santiago Bernabeu, which could prove the final straw for him in the French capital.
What’s the latest news involving Pochettino?
PSG’s Champions League exit capped off what’s been a pretty woeful 14 months for Pochettino at the Parc des Princes.
Despite being on the verge of winning the French title, the former Tottenham manager was brought in to end their painful wait to claim Europe’s top prize, which he’s been unable to achieve.
Last season, they were knocked out by Manchester City in the last four, while they weren’t even able to reach that stage after the 3-1 defeat in the Spanish capital.
According to the Telegraph, United, who are already on the lookout for a new manager with Ralf Rangnick only in charge on an interim basis, are set to go all out to try and appoint Pochettino, who’s expected to be sacked by PSG, although it’s unclear whether that could happen in the coming days or this summer.
Is Pochettino the right man for the Manchester United job?
While Pochettino would arrive at Old Trafford with a couple of domestic French trophies under his belt, his lack of doing it when it really matters might be a concern for the Red Devils’ hierarchy.
But he would get United playing exciting, forward-thinking football, while there’s every chance he could improve the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, similar to how he developed Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane.
If he could replicate what he did at Tottenham on a bigger scale, the United faithful would surely get on board very quickly, and if he’s backed properly in the transfer market, they could become a force once again.
