With the new appointment of Frank Lampard as the Everton club boss, the toons are ready to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline.
According to The Athletic, Van de Beek has been discussed with the club’s managerial targets and has emerged Everton’s top priority this window.
The 24-year-old international was previously a target for former director of football Marcel Brands ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Van de Beek has struggled for game time ever since his move to England from Ajax and so Manchester United are open to him departing on loan for the rest of the campaign.
Crystal Palace have also expressed interest in the midfielder and there have been talks between the two clubs.
Though Everton have already signed Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson this window, while Anwar El Ghazi arrived at Goodison Park on loan from Aston Villa.
However, signing a new midfielder is a priority for the club, with Fabian Delph and influential fellow midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure both out for a “minimum of four weeks” with thigh and groin problems respectively.
Frank Lampard is meanwhile on the verge of becoming Everton’s new manager, emerging as the board’s preferred choice for the job after a day of interviews in London.
