Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, has named a strong squad to face Manchester United in Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie at Old Trafford.
Simeone named a 23-man squad that includes Joao Felix, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez to face Man United in England.
He released the list in a post via Atletico Madrid’s official website on Monday.
Both Atletico and Man United had drawn 1-1 in the first leg in Spain.
Below is Atletico Madrid’s squad against Man United:
Goalkeepers: Oblak, Lecomte, Gomez.
Defenders: Gimenez, Lodi, Savic, Felipe, Hermoso, Reinildo, Fran Gonzalez, Ibra.
Midfielders: Kondogbia, De Paul, Koke, Llorente, Herrera, Serrano, Martin, Moreno.
Forwards: Felix, Griezmann, Suarez, Correa.
Ralf Rangnick: ‘We will try everything we possibly can to win the game vs Atletico’
Speaking ahead of the Atletico Madrid clash in the Champions League, Ralf Rangnick said: “For us it’s about our own sporting ambition. We are highly ambitious, we want to proceed.
“We want to show that we can compete with the best teams in Europe and therefore we will try everything to win the game tomorrow. It doesn’t matter which way we qualify for Champions League next season.
“The question is what is most realistic. Tomorrow is Champions League and we’ll try everything we possibly can to win the game, to be in the last eight. Even if we manage to do that, there are other good teams in the competition.”
Manchester United played out a 1–1 draw away at Atletico Madrid last month in the Round of 16 first-leg clash but it’s important to remember that there’s no away goal rule this year.
Qualifying for the 2022/23 Champions League is Rangnick’s only goal for the season and the Red Devils can achieve that by winning the competition or finishing in the top 4 in the Premier League.
