Tottenham made an approach for Marcus Rashford but were rebuffed in their efforts, The Times reports.
Spurs were told that the forward wants to impress Erik ten Hag and fight for his place at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old had a difficult season at United, starting just 13 out of his 25 Premier League appearances – and scoring just five goals across all competitions.
However, he understands that he’ll have a chance for a fresh start under a new coach, as Ten Hag is waiting to begin his first pre-season in charge of the team.
‘It’s not so wise’: Van Gaal advises Timber against going to Man United
At a press conference, ex-Man United head coach Louis van Gaal was asked to comment on his former club’s interest in Jurrien Timber who plays for him in the Dutch national side.
“I think a player of his quality can play in the Premier League. That is not a problem,” Van Gaal said about the Ajax centre-back.
“If he has to make this big step now, that’s the question… it is not so wise I think (to join Manchester United). He has to play.”
A few months ago, Van Gaal also advised Erik ten Hag to move to an ‘actual football club’ rather than to Man United which he described as a ‘commercial club’.
The 70-year-old clearly has his thoughts about United dating back to his time there. We can’t be sure if he’s fully objective in his opinion, though.
