According to Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella reports, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to to keep all of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva at the club, Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella reports.
The four defenders are approaching the tail end of their contracts with the Blues and June might see them leave the club as free agents. However, recent developments suggests that three of these players are more likely to sign a new deal than not.
Thiago Silva’s case might be the most straightforward one as Chelsea believe that he would want to stay there at least until the 2022 World Cup.
Similarly, the club also expects Azpilicueta to commit to a new deal. Both Silva and Azpilicueta might not play every week, but their experience and leadership are vital for the dressing room.
AS for Andreas Christensen, it is not clear if he will stay because of the recent hitch in talks between the club and player’s agent. But, Tuchel himself said that he expected good news in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Rudiger’s situation is the most difficult one. The club are reluctant to award him a deal that would make him one of the top earners, so a free exit is the likeliest outcome here.
Real Madrid are leading the charge to sign Rudiger in the summer, with Bayern Munich and PSG also in the race.
