Tuchel clarifies his issue with Stamford Bridge pitch reveals the demands

Tuchel opened up on his comments about the pitch at Stamford Bridge affecting performances in his press conference.

“I don’t know. I am not a specialist on it. We are looking on the highest level in every department. I know everybody is trying hard, I know.

“I said it because the first goal was a mistake from Andreas but the mistake was because of a funny bounce of the ball. We had more of them in the game.

“It was bit awkward to play and calculate the speed and bounce of the ball. This one has a clear relationship. It’s like this so that was it.

“I know everybody is working hard in every department and want to provide the best level so we try to keep on going.”

When asked whether the condition of the pitch has something to do with the sanctions on the club curbing funds he responded:

“No, no. The demands are high from the manager, that’s the problem! We were struggling a little bit with the timing of the renewal this season and that then leads to a bit of the problem so the pitch was not where it should and could be at the beginning of the season.

“We saw it and felt it when we had away matches. That’s why. This one was now a funny bounce, given to the quality of the pitch at this moment and that cost us.”

Knowing how meticulous Premier League groundsmen usually are with their pitches, the Chelsea ground staff would probably have had a word or two to say to Tuchel after his comments earlier this week.

Tuchel reveals 2 key players ruled out for West Ham clash

Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Mateo Kovacic and Antonio Rudiger will miss out Chelsea’s Premier League match against West Ham on Sunday.

“For Sunday they [Kovacic and Rudiger] are not back. But no other new injuries.”

If the last match is anything to go by, Rudiger’s absence may well affect Chelsea’s defensive solidity. Kovacic is also a big miss for the Blues as he is the most consistent midfielder for the club when he isn’t injured.

Tuchel will have find a way to cope with the two absentees as they look to widen the gap between themselves and Spurs to 8 points with a win.
