‘It was not to punish them’: Tuchel explains why he called players for training on off-day after Wolves draw

The day after the Wolves game was scheduled to be an off-day for Chelsea players but Thomas Tuchel decided to change plans as he called them in for another training session.

Tuchel explained his decision (via Chelsea FC): “We planned the free day but after the disappointment, it was not to punish them. Of course, maybe some felt like it was a punishment but it was not the moment for a free day.

“I explained to them it’s better to be together and to talk about it than to go and everybody has his own opinion, everybody has his own truth, and you have more risk to be in fragments than to be here.

“So we did here very, very light training, we just had a had a run together and spent time together discussing things and how we want to approach the next days. It was not to show to a video session and show all the mistakes.”

Chelsea were leading by two goals but conceded two in the second half, including a 97th minute equaliser that saw them drop points in their 3rd straight game.

Lukaku to start again, rest players for FA Cup final? Select best XI for Leeds clash

Chelsea take on Leeds in the Premier League today as they look to guarantee their top-four spot ahead of the FA Cup final this weekend.

Tuchel has said that Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are still unlikely to feature this week and will undergo a late fitness test to see if they can make it.

Keeping that in mind, we’re asking the Tribuna community to choose their starting XI for the game from 2 options.

Option 1: Werner-Havertz attack

Kovacic and Loftus-Cheek have to be paired in the absence of Kante and Jorginho while the duo of Werner and Havertz complete the attack.

Havertz and Mount were benched for our game against Wolves and will likely start here, with Alonso and Reece James operating as the wing-backs ahead of the 3-man defence.

Option 2: Lukaku starts, some rotation for FA Cup final

Chelsea should still qualify for top four despite their poor form and Tuchel will certainly have an eye out on the FA Cup final this weekend against Liverpool.

With this in mind, we can see some rotation as starters such as Silva, Rudiger and Kovacic can be benched. We shift to a four-at-the-back system with Mount playing behind Romelu Lukaku, who scored two goals against Wolves last weekend.
