When asked about whether he was down after seeing Chelsea suffer a 1-3 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel said: “What do you expect from me? To smile? Of course I am down.
“We don’t have to go to Madrid (next), we have to go to Southampton. I think this is very, very important we process this. It’s crucial we go to Southampton, and I will make sure everyone processes this.”
Tuchel was understandably annoyed to see his side fall to a damning loss despite controlling the majority of the possession. Chelsea conceded some really poor goals and Tuchel’s game plan didn’t work either.
The German manager is going through some tough times in his life, with his wife having filed for divorce lately, but seems to be eager to ensure Chelsea finish the season strongly.
No goals against prominent European teams: Lukaku’s poor big-game record continues
Romelu Lukaku has been very frustrating to watch in Chelsea’s games against the ‘big teams’ this season.
In the Premier League, the Belgian striker has only scored 1 goal in 7 games against top-6 opposition.
That game also came in the 2-0 win over Arsenal at the beginning of the season.
Even in the Champions League, Lukaku has only scored 2 goals in 6 games. None of those goals have been against elite teams.
He failed to score against Juventus and has now also been unable to score past Real Madrid.
In total, Lukaku just has 1 goal in 12 ‘big games’ this season – which includes his inability to score in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and final against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
