We have a preferred bidder – Tuchel gives update on Chelsea new owners

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has confirmed that they have a preferred bidder, as the club looks to find a new owner.

The Premier League side need to complete the takeover before next month’s deadline.

Tuchel is confident that a deal will be struck soon.

Todd Boehly’s consortium is believed to be preferred bidder status by the Raine Group, the New York bank overseeing Chelsea ’s sale.

They had beaten a number of other bidders, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s last-minute bid now also expected to prove unsuccessful.

“I’ve been told last week that we have a preferred bidder and things are going forward,” Tuchel said.

“It’s a pretty important week for the club, but I was fully focused on the pitch. But after what I heard last week I’m confident.”

Chelsea have released a statement saying that Todd Boehly will be the new owner of the club

“Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club.

“Of the total investment being made, £2.5bn will be applied to purchase the shares in the Club and such proceeds will be deposited into a frozen UK bank account with the intention to donate 100% to charitable causes as confirmed by Roman Abramovich. UK Government approval will be required for the proceeds to be transferred from the frozen UK bank account. “In addition, the proposed new owners will commit £1.75bn in further investment for the benefit of the Club. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation. “The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time.”

Thomas Tuchel was asked to share his opinion on Chelsea’s takeover process nearing completion, with Todd Boehly’s consortium set to become the new owners.

Tuchel said: “I’ve been told last week that we have a preferred bidder and things go forward. It is an important week now for the club. I was not involved, fully focused on the pitch but after what I heard last week I am confident.

“Clearance is always the best as when the situation is clear you can take actions and make judgement and actions. You can act. Otherwise, you are in a passive role. This is what we are. We try to make the smallest issue possible.

“Of course it is always there. We are prepared to have it in a clear and forward-thinking situation, This is what we are looking and hoping for, that we know what we deal with and what the circumstances are in improving the team, that we can act and not react or even worse do nothing.”

The new owners should be officially announced once the final details are sorted. Boehly is likely to take over full control before the end of May.

‘There’s not much room for normal behaviour, we want elite behaviour’: Tuchel says players must show reaction

Thomas Tuchel has shared what he thinks Chelsea must do to win against Wolves on Saturday.

“We had a week to prepare which was nice, but not nice because we prefer to play Champions League.

“But it was nice to have the team, to have influence in training, to set the focus on the things we want to improve and we want to meet our standards and we demand a lot from us.

“I think there’s a lot of reasons why it’s sometimes almost normal to drop the intensity and the level of effort, but as we are an elite sports team and we compete on the highest level there’s not much room for normal behaviour.

“We want elite behaviour and this includes me so we need to step up, show another reaction and show that we can play better, we can have more impact and more effort in the matches, starting from tomorrow.”
